START WITH AN ASSESSMENT
If pigeon droppings have accumulated on your balcony, leave the material undisturbed and arrange an assessment before washing. Take photos from a clean, safe position, notify your building manager and explain whether birds are still using the space. Heavy buildup needs a separate cleanup scope.
A balcony can become difficult to enjoy when droppings collect around railings, furniture and sheltered corners. For Halifax condo residents, the problem also involves neighbours, access through the unit and where cleaning water will go. A useful quote should address all of those details—not simply the number of square feet.
Why dry sweeping is the wrong starting point
Avoid dry sweeping, blowing or scraping accumulated waste before it has been assessed. These actions can stir up dust. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety explains that Histoplasma can grow in environments enriched by bird or bat droppings and that inhaling airborne spores can cause illness. Avoiding exposure to contaminated dust is a key precaution.
That does not mean every dropping contains this fungus, or that a photograph can establish a health risk. The practical point is to avoid unnecessary disturbance. Keep children and pets away from the affected area, and do not carry soiled furniture through your home just to prepare for a quote.
The CDC recommends specialist hazardous-waste professionals for large accumulations. A routine balcony-washing appointment is not automatically the right service. Yellow Wash reviews the conditions before confirming whether a job fits our cleanup scope; some situations need a specialist.

What to do before requesting pigeon waste removal
1. Tell your property manager. Ask about contractor access, resident notices and any building rules covering balcony cleaning. If you rent, include your landlord in the conversation. Clarifying responsibility early helps avoid a quote that cannot be scheduled.
2. Photograph the space without disturbing it. A wide photo shows the floor, railing and access route. A closer photo taken from a safe position shows the buildup and material underneath. Include affected furniture or equipment so nothing important is missed.
3. Report current bird activity. Tell us about pigeons, nests or young birds you can see. Do not move a nest to prepare for cleaning. Waste cleanup and preventing birds from returning are separate tasks, and your building may need to coordinate with a suitable bird-management professional.
A quick guide to the information we need
| Send us | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Address, floor and approximate balcony size | Helps define the work area and access arrangements. |
| Wide photos and close views of the buildup | Shows the condition and affected surfaces. |
| Concrete, coating, tile or another finish | Helps us assess compatibility before choosing a method. |
| Bird activity, furniture and equipment | Identifies additional conditions to discuss. |
| Building contact, water and power access | Helps coordinate approval and the practical setup. |
What is included—and what needs a separate scope?
Our pigeon waste removal service starts with the amount of waste, the surface and safe access. The agreed quote identifies the areas to be cleaned and any included treatments. Heavy waste is assessed separately from standard concrete balcony cleaning.
Ask specifically about furniture, ledges, glass and any marks that remain after waste removal. Cleaning can improve appearance, but it does not guarantee that every stain or damaged finish will disappear. Specialist stain treatment is included only when specified. Our waste-cleanup service does not include trapping, bird netting installation or pest control.

Move the comparison handle to view the balcony before and after cleaning. These photographs show the visible change in this project; they do not certify a surface as sterile or promise an identical result elsewhere.
Plan beyond the first cleanup
If birds can keep using the same sheltered area, cleaning alone may not solve the recurring problem. Ask the building manager to consider access points and appropriate deterrent options. A coordinated plan helps residents understand what the cleaner handles and what requires a separate contractor.
For managers responsible for several shared spaces, our Condo services hub also covers related building-cleaning needs. Combining the assessment of affected areas can help produce a clearer scope for the property.
Request a pigeon waste cleanup assessment
Send Yellow Wash your photos, property address, floor level and building requirements. We will review the conditions and confirm the next step for your Halifax or HRM property.
Looking for ordinary residential exterior cleaning too? Use our instant quote for supported services. Pigeon waste cleanup requires a custom assessment.
